Stop Toxic Thoughts: Break Negative Thinking for Stress and Anxiety Relief by Cody Evans
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Wonderful and impactful, if short, book of tools for retraining the brain for less negative reaction and reduction of anxiety. Our thoughts create our behaviors, which stem from what we believe about the world around us. As a businesswoman, I've experienced at a high level how negative thinking leads to greater stress and anxiety. Mindfulness is a great first start and lifelong practice but the tools in this book are about more precise change by challenging how we are wired as individuals. Many of the tools I recognized and have used to great results, but many were new to me. A literal full toolbox that everyone should have on their shelf and employ. The author wrote the book in a very approachable and casual manner, with great stories as examples to go along with the tools. Right up there with a few books on how to meditate, this book will be one I give out to others as an excellent source for how to affect real change in their lives. My only criticism is that the book felt too short. Not short in useful content but short in the reading experience, the stories and writing feel like it tapers off instead of reaching a climax towards the end. If you know about CBT and these tools then great but what isn't covered is some payoff to the reader that these tools do in fact work and work well. Enjoyed the read and a really great collection of tools for those suffering from anxiety and/or negative self-talk.
